Summary
The Spring 1991 issue of The Future of Children focused on drug-exposed infants. This section provides an update on three key areas discussed in that journal issue: the response of the courts and legislatures to this problem, the medical effects of prenatal exposure to cocaine, and the impact of drug-exposed infants on the child welfare system. As noted, these updates were written by three of the contributing authors to the 1991 journal issue—Lynn Paltrow, Barry Zuckerman, and Charlotte McCullough. In addition, with respect to the child welfare system, there are comments offered by Richard Barth, a contributing author to The Future of Children issue on Adoption (Spring 1993). Finally, this Revisiting Section provides a list of some of the key clearinghouses and recent publications relating to drug-exposed infants.
